Artist Statement

We are a group of four artists working in a variety of media - please take the time to follow us individually:

Carolyn Trafford

The close up beauty of the natural world inspires me to produce my textile work, exploring natural or man-made environments that others may overlook. Textures, patterns and colours are often only revealed when I focus on the detail using close up photography.

I use a variety of techniques including wet felting, appliqué, free machine embroidery, heated textiles and image transfer to transform my photographs into colourful textural stitched pieces of art.

Being environmentally conscious I prefer to work in an ethical way, and I am currently experimenting with silver clay, a compound containing recycled silver to make jewellery.

Molly Davies

As an artist I like to work plein air, I delight in exploring the countryside, taking with me sketchbooks, mixed media and my camera. My inspiration comes from the sky, the sea and the landscape. During a recent visit to the northern parts of Scotland, I found myself in the early morning looking up at the bright skies, full of colour, reflecting into the clear calm waters of the loch. I find it beneficial to be still and contemplate life; it is food to my soul bringing harmony and balance to the world I live in.

Paula Sigley

Since recently moving to the Staffordshire Moorlands Paula has embraced the landscape and nature around her. The latest work is inspired by the shape of water; waves, reflection, the way water reacts to energy and temperature. From solid to vapour. Each piece is a shape frozen in time.
