Artist Statement
Wiseheart Studio is a textile arts studio based in the heart of the High Peak and is home to textile artists Kate Greatorex and Wild Spinster. The studio focuses on the use of natural fibres, in particular, British wool sourced from local farms. Using a combination of techniques the artists transform this everyday fibre into textile art.
Kate Greatorex is an artisan weaver who focuses on producing handwoven cloth inspired by the canal and local industrial heritage. She then uses the fabric to create home furnishings that are practical and beautiful. Her love of the local landscape is reflected in the colours and patterns she uses.
Wild Spinster is a dyer and textile artist with a fascination for colour and the emotions it creates. She draws inspiration from the world around her and enjoys combining the natural and manmade. Like Kate, she is a believer in sustainable fashion and sourcing fibres ethically.
