Artist Statement

Valerie Dalling has lived in Derbyshire for over 30 years, and proud to have been awarded a BA Hons (First Class) Fine Art Photography by the University of Derby in 2006, she continues using all her skills to pursue her passion for the outdoors. Drawing inspiration from the light, colour, shape and textures of the Derbyshire landscape and beyond, she enjoys exploring with an open mind, from abstract to representational photography, Valerie strives to create a unique painterly style, sometimes using nothing more than her phone.

With a move to the Peak District just over two years ago, it has opened up new and exciting opportunities for her through  Journeys Through The Landscape, a lifetime project, in which she explores the views, rivers, people and history from her new home. When she's not in her Ashford in the Water studio, Valerie is either out with the camera making work for herself or with the community.

In 2008 she founded The Image Club, launching her first monthly photo forum. From beginners to those with photographic experience, she has a particular interest in how others visually respond to the world around them, encouraging discussions on image making, through the sharing of ideas and knowledge, in relaxed and informal environments. She is currently working with both the Derby and Sheffield Hospitals Arts Programme, who have commissioned her to set up and facilitate an Image Club for members of staff, giving them a little personal leisure time to relax and enjoy photography together in their place of work.

Award winning artist Valerie Dalling is available for exhibitions, commissions, visual and observational workshops, walks with the camera, collaborative and community focused projects, as well as offering her own range of bespoke limited edition prints and greetings cards.
