Alison Wake - 56

Location: Flagg, Buxton / Genre: Textile Artist

Artist Statement

A self taught textile artist, living in the Peak District National Park, Alison is inspired by the micro and macro landscapes surrounding her home. Whilst the natural beauty of the area may be obvious to many she is also influenced by the impact of humanity on the landscape and her images often draw on industrial and agricultural features.

Her fine art works are hand stitched, often using locally sourced, hand dyed wool. Using a free hand technique she “paints with thread and yarn”. Whilst walking the paths and trails of the Peak District she sees, hears, smells and feels the natural and manmade features which make the area so unique; communicating her experience through the colour, texture and imagery of her pictures.

An award winning artist, Alison exhibits her work locally and nationally and has been featured on Instagram by Tate Britain. She is a member of Peak District Artisans and The Society for Embroidered Work

As well as exhibiting her portfolio of orginal works and limited edition prints, Alison will be available to discuss her creative process and demonstrate her techniques.
