Artist Statement
I am a collector and beachcomber who finds inspiration walking the strandlines of Britain’s beaches, curating collections of the different objects I find. Each collection reveals something of the natural and human histories of the places explored and is unique to my walk in that place on that day. All my work is place-specific and none of the material I use is altered, I only use what is found, as it was found.
Whilst I am beachcombing I pick up a lot of plastic that, although unwelcome on our beaches, can still be treasured once the stories behind it are discovered or imagined. My work in beach plastic is about the interesting and well-travelled objects I find, colour, humour and simply making good use of the material I remove from the beaches I visit.
If you would like to view or purchase work at my studio at Haarlem Artspace Wirksworth, please contact me via e-mail. Each piece of original work is unique and dependent on the material I have collected. I’m also happy to discuss commissions.
