Adele Kime - 28

Location: New Mills / Genre: Jewellery

Artist Statement

Adele graduated in 2001 with a degree in 3D Design, specialising in jewellery and already possessing a HND in Textile Design; she has brought her knowledge of these two disciplines together and applied them within her work.

In 2002, she was awarded a business development grant by the Crafts Council and became a Designer in Residence at Manchester Metropolitan University. During her residency, she taught and perfected her skills as a designer jeweller, after which she set up her own studio in the High Peak of Derbyshire where she draws inspiration from the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Inspired by nature’s colours, patterns and organic structures Adele captures these in the intricate and sculptural qualities of her unique jewellery. Colourful luminosity describes her hand printed /painted anodised aluminium ranges incorporating images from nature and etched/pierced pieces in silver. These methods she uses to subtly or strikingly decorate the metals surface. In particular her textile/silver range echo nature’s way of encasing and protecting, some are reminiscent of decaying seedpods, symbolising the skeletal forms of nature’s growth.

Her jewellery has featured in many prestigious exhibitions in the UK and abroad, such as ‘Sofa' in America, ‘In the Making' Barcelona and 'Dazzle' UK. Her work has also been published in several contemporary jewellery books.

As an experienced tutor for the last 20 years she continues to teach Jewellery design and making in the High Peak and has taught many local jewellers her skills. She runs workshops in jewellery/textiles for groups or one to one tuition throughout the year in her studio or requested venues.

Her work is available in selected outlets and at shows in the High Peak and further afield.
