Artist Statement
Roger is a professional artist working in the mediums of watercolour and oils. Based in Derbyshire for over 25 years the seasonal changes of the Peak District landscape provides constant inspiration. Preferring to work where possible, ‘en plein air’, the tradition of the British Romantic movement may be discerned in his landscapes but a long association with farming informs an awareness that this is a working environment, realism as opposed to idealism. Not confined to one subject Roger also paints urban and industrial scenes, still life, and narrative work which frequently confronts notions of mortality and the passage of time.
Roger has work in the collections of the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Wellingborough Borough Council, the Landmark Trust and Sir Paul Smith. He was elected a member of the Northampton Town and County Art Society in 1985 and Peak District Artisans in 2011.
